CANAL's in-house platform for diesel-electric hybrid propulsion and battery-backed peak shaving, including the HYBRIDe Bow Thruster System.
Description
HYBRIDe is CANAL's in-house hybrid power management platform, used for diesel-electric hybrid retrofits and battery-backed hybrid power plants. Peak shaving can also be applied to winches, cranes, drilling systems and other cyclical high-power loads.
Applications
- MV Coho (HYBRIDe Bow Thruster System): a battery-backed hybrid power system supporting two new 330 kW bow thrusters without increasing the capacity of the existing two 250 kW diesel generators. CANAL designed, manufactured and integrated two independent hybrid power plants with DC bus drives, protection and control systems, step-up transformers and Li-Ion storage (two 100 kWh arrays), plus a Power Management System with HMIs and integrated alarm management.
- Great Lakes Towing tugs: hybrid power and propulsion for new fleet tugs with conventional direct drive and diesel-electric hybrid modes (Diesel-electric 1 & 2, Main engine, Assist); the hybrid system is non-essential. CANAL provided design, build, integration, commissioning and support.
