Wärtsilä Alternative Maritime Power (AMP) Ship-to-Shore Power System
Ship-to-shore power (cold ironing) system that lets vessels take electricity from the shore grid in port, available as built-in or deck-mounted containerised systems designed to IEC 80005.
Description
Wärtsilä Alternative Maritime Power (AMP) lets a ship take electricity from the shore grid in port instead of running its onboard engines, eliminating engine emissions and noise during the port stay. AMP is also known as cold ironing, Onshore Power Supply (OPS), Shore Connection (SC) or High Voltage Shore Connection (HVSC).
The solutions are available as built-in shore-side systems or deck-mounted containerised systems, designed according to IEC 80005 for high-voltage shore connection. The standard applies to container ships, cruise ships, RoRo cargo ships, LNG carriers and tankers, and can also be applied to vessels needing low-voltage systems such as bulkers or offshore vessels.
Wärtsilä Shore Power Container (SPC)
A complete AMP solution for container vessels, housed in a standard 40 ft high cube container that can be installed at any suitable location on deck. A 20 ft single-component version is available on request, and a single-component solution allows the main components to be installed in different locations onboard.
- Up to 7.2 MVA transferable power at 6600 V / 60 Hz and 45 °C
- Usable on port and starboard side
- 40 ft standard high cube container including CSC certificate
- Design according to IEC 80005-1
- Electric cable reel drive with tension control
- Shore interface designed to the specification for ports in California, USA (others on request)
- Optional step-down transformer for low-voltage applications
Configurations
- Bolted type: medium-voltage cables with power, control (pilot), ground and fibre-optic cores; connection plugs per port standards; cable management system; usable cable length up to 80 m (customised solutions available); air-insulated 6.6 kV medium-voltage switchboard per IEC 60271-200, protected by GPM501; Monitoring and Control Cabinet with ship–shore safety interlocks, communication and interface to the ship automation system. HV Reception Box (arc tested) for the ship-side power cable connection.
- Plugged type: connection plugs with power, control and fibre-optic contacts; electric drive with control box; usable cable length up to 20 m. Available boxes include an arc-tested ship-side power connection box, LV Reception Box, arc-tested HV Change-over Box for port/starboard switch-over, and LV Distribution Box.
- Transformer option: up to 3.5 MVA at 6600 V / 60 Hz and 45 °C; rated secondary voltage 450 V or 690 V; air–water cooling with fresh water.
Services
For newbuilds and retrofits Wärtsilä provides feasibility analysis, onboard inspection, engineering and conversion planning, conversion cost budgeting, and complete onboard installation including foundations, cables, cable trays and connection to the vessel's main switchboard (modified or new LV/HV panels with protection and power management).
