Variable Speed Shaft Generator (Adaptive Electronic Generator)
Variable speed shaft generator integration that produces electrical power from the propulsion shaft at varying RPMs, reducing reliance on auxiliary diesel generators.
Description
CANAL integrates variable speed shaft generators that let vessels generate electrical power from the propulsion shaft at varying RPMs, reducing the need for auxiliary diesel generators and lowering fuel burn and maintenance burden. CANAL's adaptive electronic generator technology is also used in its diesel-electric hybrid retrofits.
Applications
On Western Towboat's Ocean Titan (120 ft tow boat), CANAL's Adaptive Electronic Generator (AEG) solution has logged thousands of hours of operation, with:
- Tens of thousands of gallons of diesel saved
- Over 100T of CO2 emissions reduced
- A major reduction in maintenance
- Less engine room noise
