Wrtsil

Medium-speed marine engine in diesel, LNG (DF or NextDF) and ammonia versions; 6L–9L, 1.9–3.4 MW at 900/1000 rpm, TBO up to 32,000 h, methane slip as low as 0.9% with NextDF.

Description

The Wärtsilä 25 is a medium-speed marine engine designed for fuel flexibility and easy integration into mechanical, diesel-electric and hybrid propulsion. Its modular design enables conversion to future fuels.

Technical data

  • Power range: 1.9 – 3.4 MW
  • Configurations: 6L – 9L
  • Nominal speed: 900 or 1000 rpm
  • Fuels: diesel, LNG (standard DF or NextDF), ammonia; compatible with biofuels
  • Time between overhaul (TBO): up to 32,000 h

Emissions and compliance

  • IMO Tier III natively in LNG mode; with Wärtsilä NOR when running on diesel or ammonia
  • NextDF: methane slip as low as 0.9% and efficiency gain up to 0.5 percentage points; meets current FuelEU Maritime requirements
  • Ammonia version: up to 90% GHG reduction at 95% ammonia energy share, with integrated safety systems and Wärtsilä AmmoniaPac

Integration

  • Compatible with Wärtsilä NOx Reducer (NOR), LNGPac and AmmoniaPac fuel supply systems
  • Hybrid operation with batteries for optimal engine loading
  • Smart propulsion control such as EcoControl

Applications

  • Small merchant and short-sea cargo vessels
  • LNG bunkering vessels (e.g. Ibaizabal, with 25DF NextDF)
  • PSVs, including ammonia conversion (Viking Energy)
  • Fishing vessels
