Wärtsilä NOx Reducer (NOR)

Wrtsil

SCR-based NOx after-treatment system optimised for Wärtsilä 4-stroke engines, with IMO/EPA Tier III EIAPP certification of engine plus SCR, fuel flexibility from HFO to ammonia and methanol.

Description

The Wärtsilä NOx Reducer (NOR) is an exhaust after-treatment system using Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to reduce nitrogen oxides. It is optimised and validated for Wärtsilä medium-speed engines, compatible with the entire Wärtsilä 4-stroke engine portfolio, and available for newbuilds and retrofits. Wärtsilä has delivered thousands of SCR and SCR with oxidation catalyst (OXI) units since early 1990.

Main components

  • Reactor with soot blowing unit and catalyst elements
  • Urea pump unit
  • Urea dosing unit
  • Urea mixing and injection unit

Key features

  • IMO and EPA Tier III EIAPP certificates for the complete engine and SCR package; ultra-low NOx levels beyond Tier III available
  • Fuel-flexible: from high-sulphur HFO to ammonia, methanol and other sustainable fuels
  • Compatible with SOx scrubbers; can be integrated with silencers, including the Wärtsilä compact silencer
  • Fully automatic operation with integrated communication system
  • Built-in NOx verification tests and urea control system
  • Cyber secure
  • OEM solution simplifying future engine upgrades

Applications

Marine diesel and dual-fuel engines operating in NOx Emission Control Areas (North American, US Caribbean, Baltic Sea, North Sea and English Channel) and under other NOx rules such as US EPA and the Norwegian NOx tax. Also available for land-based power plants.
