Fuel Pumping System Compatibility Check
Auramarine service checking fuel pumps for capacity and lubricity compatibility with low-sulphur fuels, with replacement pump specification, supply, assembly, testing and updated P&ID for class.
Description
The Auramarine pumping system compatibility check verifies that fuel supply pumps designed for HFO/MDO maintain correct pumping capacity and lubricity when running on low-sulphur distillate fuels (typically 0.5% to 0.1% sulphur), whose different viscosities can reduce pumping capacity.
What is checked
- Clearances and dimensions (critical for screw pump capacity)
- Gaskets and wear
- Screw dimensions for lubricity compatibility
- Pump documentation; a photo of the name plate often suffices
Upgrade and replacement
- Service engineers carry out the check; if needed, Auramarine supplies parts, performs assembly and tests pump function and performance
- Specification and delivery of new pumps sized for the new fuels
- Updated fuel system piping and instrumentation diagram for classification
- Optional magnetic coupling on mechanical pumps to eliminate shaft seal leakage
- Emergency black-start pump unit recommended for vessels with fuel changeover systems
- Replacements usually done during a longer port stay; may require minor pipework changes
