VPS

VPS began in an Oslo laboratory as the testing and advisory arm of Det Norske Veritas (DNV), the Norwegian classification organisation. As DNVPS it tested the first ever bunker fuel sample, from the M/S Mosbrook, in Bremerhaven on 18 November 1980, creating Fuel Quality Testing, and it pioneered Bunker Quantity Surveys in 1987, the year the ISO 8217 marine fuel standard was introduced.

In 2013 the DNVPS bunker fuel quality testing and bunker quantity survey business was carved out from DNV and developed as a standalone business renamed VPS. Every VPS laboratory and every ISO8217 test is ISO17025 accredited, and the company has since expanded into lubricant, coolant and transformer oil testing, emissions measurement and decarbonisation services.
