About

GPIR began as a way for the Sivertson family of Lake Superior's north shore to carry their catch of freshwater fish from Isle Royale to Minnesota, and gradually expanded into passenger service.

Today it operates two 65' aluminum passenger vessels: the Voyageur II, purpose-built for the Great Lakes with capacity for 46 passengers, and the Sea Hunter III, originally built for the North Atlantic, with capacity for 60 passengers. Both are USCG-inspected annually. The Sea Hunter III runs to Windigo from mid-June until Labor Day weekend, and the Grand Portage office is open from mid-May to late September.
