Navigation Safety Reporting and Bulletins
Near real time reports on navigation issues across the 1200-mile Gulf Intracoastal Waterway: shoaling, obstructions, dredging, lock and bridge closures and aids to navigation.
Description
GICA provides near real time reporting on navigation issues affecting all 1200 miles of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW), helping members manage supply chains and vessel scheduling and routing. Members also receive navigation bulletins during disruptions.
Coverage
- Shoaling and reported obstructions
- Dredging and harbor maintenance
- Planned and emergent bridge and lock closures
- Off-station aids to navigation
- High and low water impacts
How it works
Reporting is supported by working relationships with all six U.S. Coast Guard Captains of the Port and all three U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Districts along the waterway, as well as state Departments of Transportation and national railroads.
Applications
Situational awareness for towboat and barge operators, shippers, terminals and other GIWW users planning cargo movements.
