About
GICA was formed in 1905 to promote a single waterway connecting the major ports of the Gulf Coast and to secure federally protected status for the Gulf Coast inland waterways. The Gulf Intracoastal Waterway was completed in 1949, and the Association continues to engage legislators, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Coast Guard on the channel's maintenance and improvement.
GICA is organised as a non-profit under the Texas Non-Profit Corporation Act with 501(c)(6) status. Policy is set by resolutions approved annually by the membership, and the Association holds an annual seminar and convention for its members.
