About
SSHSA was formed in 1935 by historians and collectors passionate about steamships. Its collections are housed at the Ship History Center in Warwick, Rhode Island, where members can view ship models and collections or conduct research by appointment. A Virtual Museum was established in 2010 through a long-term planned gift from the Posner Family.
The society's programs have been partially funded by the National Maritime Heritage Grant Program of the National Park Service, and its STEAMing Into The Future program also received support from the Heritage Harbor Foundation. Members can join local chapters, including a Southern California Chapter.
