About

The SIU was chartered in 1938 and has its headquarters in Camp Springs, Maryland. It prides itself on representing well-trained crews, and a key part of that is the Paul Hall Center for Maritime Training and Education in Piney Point, Maryland, a vocational training facility operated by an SIU-affiliated entity.

The Paul Hall Center is described as the largest training facility for deep-sea merchant seafarers and inland waterways mariners in the United States. It includes the Seafarers Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship, the Joseph Sacco Fire Fighting and Safety School, the Bob McMillan Simulator Center and the Paul Hall Library and Maritime Museum.
