Hull Monitoring System (HMS)
Bridge-mounted hull monitoring system displaying real-time and historical ship responses to identify critical events such as bow emergences and deck strain limits.
Description
The Hull Monitoring System (HMS) supplements the experience and knowledge of bridge personnel by quantifying and recording ship responses to environmental conditions. The data helps officers decide on courses of action that minimize the possibility of structural damage in extreme conditions.
Key features
- Sensors include pressure gauges, strain gauges, clinometers and accelerometers
- Real-time display on the HMS Computer in the bridge console
- Historical summaries for key sensors in graphic and statistical formats
- Receives integrated bridge system data such as ship speed, course and GPS coordinates
- Continuous recording of all data
Applications
- Ship response reports for individual voyages
- Analysis of ship responses during severe weather
- Identification and quantification of critical events such as bow emergences and deck strain limits
