About
Trailer Bridge was founded in 1991 by Malcom McLean to bridge the gap between the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and completed its first sailing to the island in 1992. The company signed a 20-year lease agreement with the Puerto Rico Port Authority for its San Juan port operation in 2021 and a long-term agreement with the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) for its Jacksonville port lease in 2022.
It launched a Government Division in 2020, Trailer Bridge International (its NVOCC division) in 2021, an Intermodal Division in 2022 and Trailer Bridge Europe, with a first office in Germany, in 2024. In 2025 Trailer Bridge sold its Domestic Logistics Division to ATS Logistics Services, Inc., and in 2026 it announced the appointment of Charles Gittens as Chief Executive Officer.
