About
Redwise traces its roots to 1906, when the steam tug MOP 222B left the Netherlands for Argentina on a 6,500-mile delivery voyage. Bureau Wijsmuller followed, and Rederij Gebr. Wijsmuller was officially founded in 1948. Its crewing department was established in 1986, and in 1989 it was the first company to receive a permit for the secondment of seafarers.
Wijsmuller was acquired by Svitzer in 2001. In 2003 four employees bought out Rederij Gebr. Wijsmuller and the name Redwise, derived from the old telex answerback REWYS, was born. In 2018 Redwise took over the deep-sea pilot and VTS services of Royal Dirkzwager, and in 2021 it bought the research vessel Arctic. The company states that most of its Dutch officers are permanently employed.
