Hyannis, MA · Company

About

The business started after the 1960 election of John F. Kennedy raised demand for views of the Kennedy Compound. The Scudder brothers set up a marine sightseeing business on a small parcel at the north end of the Ocean Street Docks, beginning with the 150-passenger Maine coastal steamer Prudence as Hyannis Harbor Tours.

The founders later added deep-sea fishing, a larger fleet and seasonal ferries to Martha's Vineyard. In 1972 the company bought the Nantucket Boat Company's fleet and south-end facilities, along with the Hy-Line trade name. It describes itself as family-founded and family-owned, offering the only year-round high-speed ferry to Nantucket and the only sightseeing tour of the Cape Cod Canal.
