About

Bloom Energy is headquartered at 4353 North First Street in San Jose, California. Its origins go back to Dr. K.R. Sridhar, who in 2001 developed a CO2-to-oxygen electrolyzer at the University of Arizona, originally designed for NASA Mars missions. Sridhar is founder, chairman and CEO.

The first 5 kW field trial unit shipped in 2006 and the Bloom Energy Server was launched commercially in 2008. The company broke ground on its Delaware manufacturing center in 2012, listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BE in 2018 and opened a multi-gigawatt factory in Fremont, California, in 2022.

Most installations supply onsite power to data centers, manufacturing, hospitals, utilities and other land-based users; marine fuel cells are one of the applications the company lists alongside microgrids, electrolyzers and carbon capture.
